You’ve probably heard: “Pain is unavoidable. Suffering is optional.”
When someone breaks your heart – that is pain.
You keep telling yourself months and years later that it was her fault, that you should have said it differently, that you’ll never find another love again – that is suffering.
The ensuing lethargy, pointless life, sense of wastedness is depression.
Exploring and letting go of this attached narrative that has trapped you in the pain and perpetuates your suffering, is CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
Being mindful of your pain; holding it in your heart and not letting it loose to ruin your life; mourning the loss, then letting it go and preparing for a new adventure – that is healing.
Understanding that death, just as birth, is an essential part of nature and it is nothing personal – is existential thinking.
